Discovery Apple Blossom ~ Blossom Walk

Presenting The Orchard Year 's virtual blossom tour:
Our own little Blossom Walk through an orchard, starting with an early apple the Discovery.

The Discovery apple was "discovered" in the 1940's in Langham, Essex by a fruit farm worker who had planted some Worcester Pearmain pips in his garden and as such is a cultivar of the Worcester Permain.

It's an early fruiting apple, one of the first English varieties, often available as early as August and as such can be a little acidic in taste with a hint of strawberry. Sometimes the Discovery apple's flesh is tinted pink.

Discovery is a fairly disease resistant apple and being quite easy to grow makes a good apple tree for the garden.
